Yanhan Peng is a curator that currently studies and works in New York. Born in 1985 in Chengdu, China, she holds an M.A. degree in curatorial Studies at CCS Bard College, New York. She obtained her first Master’s degree in Intercultural Studies from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008, and holds a B.A. in Journalism from Shanghai International Studies University (2003-2007). Her professional trajectory started from working at the Curatorial and Research Department, Guangdong Museum of Art (2008-2010), and later she became an independent researcher/curator/editor to numerous exhibitions, biennials and art projects in China. She has worked as Assistant Curator for the 2012 Yixian International Photo Festival and Bishan Harvestival in the rural communities of Anhui Province, the 2011 Chengdu Biennial, the 2009 Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, the 2009 Guangzhou Photo Biennial, as well as Consultant/Coordinator for the BMW Guggenheim Lab in Asia, Farewell to Post-Colonialism: The Third Guangzhou Triennial, among others. She has also edited numerous catalogs and books such as the 8-volumn Readers of Current Indian Thoughts for the 8th Shanghai Biennale, Cultural Mediation published by the Cultural Management program of Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc. In 2015, she worked at the Dancing Foxes Press in New York specializing in publications within the artworld. From 2015-2016, she curated exhibitions at Hessel Museum, CCS Bard, ISCP in Brooklyn. Since 2016, she is the guest curator of Cloud Gallery in New York, and initiated a series of new commissions to frame the project space of the gallery. Yanhan’s recent practice and writings address the interfaces and spectra of different cultural logics, which are often situated within the narratives of broad intellectual and social histories. She is also keen to develop an understanding of time, technology, everyday politics and alternative futurity.
